World's Worst Dictator

The International Criminal Court(ICC) prosecutor has sought arrest warrant against Omar Hassan al-Bashir, President of SUDAN,charging him with mastermind the darfur geocide that has claimed over 3.5lakh lives and committing crimes against humainty.

While rejecting the charges, Sudan has promised to allow United Nation peacekeepers to continue their work but the world body was not taking any chances. The UN is withdrawing non-essential personnel and making arrangements for food and essential items.

The UN has said that peacekeepers are most vulnerable to any action taken by tha government or its supported militias and point to several clashes in which some peacekeepers have been killed.

Human rights groups believe that Bashir might be more amenable to a peace deal inDarfur as the ICC evaluated the evidence to avoid the issuance of arrest warrant.

The UN Security Counicl has asked the ICC to investigate the crimes in Darfur in 2005 and diplomats said the western governments apparently provided intelligence including satellite surveilence to enable Procescutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo to build the case.

However, Sudan rejected genocide charges against its president for crimes in Darfur, and one top lawmaker said his government could no longer guarantee the safety ofUnited Nations staff in the troubled region.

The international community is divided over the approach to tackling the sudan crisis.Russia and China in any action against Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir on charges of genocide, warning that it could have an adverse impact on the peace process in the region.
